What to expect of integrated assessment models: A call for clarity

Abstract
For climate policy advice, integrated assessment models (IAMs) are as influential as they are controversial. Yet, traditional model evaluation fails for IAMs. We propose to evaluate IAMs based on expectations for them and call on modelers to adjust expectations to what IAMs are able to deliver by improving their model commentaries.
